The photographs I have submitted of my work give an insight in to the variety of projects I have covered within my A-level Textile Art course. Each individual piece I have produced reflects my own personal style and creativity. I have experienced a broad range of textile techniques from printed fabrics to tie-dye and felt making. I particularly enjoyed the felt making and the patchwork process, which I am currently using to develop my most recent unit of work (photograph of on-going work included). I’ve also become interested in exploring my own cultural identity through my Textile studies, this becomes most clear in a unit of work I developed based on my family and present unit influenced by Indian fashion designer Manish Arora. I hope the work I have submitted illustrates my interests and potential to progress further.
I have studied Art all through my high school and my A-level years. I have thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of the Art programmes offered such as Art & Design, Textiles and Performing Arts. Taking A-level Textiles has enabled me enhance my skills and participate in extracurricular activities for example, I have enjoyed working with a creative arts community group who visit primary schools and daycare groups, to work with young children and enhance their talent with fun, imaginative art activities. I have a very strong relationship with my family and friends who are very close to me. I am a very outgoing person who likes to socialise, which enables me to make friends easily and get along with all kinds of different people. I am really optimistic about increasing my knowledge on the fashion industry and having the opportunity to learn new techniques and skills, through further study at degree level, as I have always been committed to a career within the Textile Industry.
